Scientology kindergarten closed down
City authorities in Munich, southern Germany, have closed down a kindergarten with immediate effect after discovering it was run by the Church of Scientology, the municipality said.
“The wellbeing of the children in the establishment was under threat because the education process was based on the principles of Scientology,” the municipality said in a statement.
The kindergarten opened last summer and had 18 children looked after by two adults.
The Church of Scientology became the subject of intense debate in Germany last year when Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise, one of its most famous followers, was chosen to play the role of a resistance hero in a film about a failed plot to kill Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
Cruise was deemed by many Germans to be unsuitable for the part because of his beliefs. In January, German historian Guido Knopp compared a speech the actor made to fellow Scientologists with a call to war by Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels.

For the sake of the children, I’m so glad the authorities shut down that school. Unfortunately, in scientology schools, you only learn the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard, and not the basics, such as history, maths, or geography. Scientology is a dangerous cult that only wants your money.
it’s nice to see that germans can pick and choose what religions are allowed in their state. why is it ok for them to persecute this religion and protect judaism at the same time?
jenna, your comment is stupid. i might point out that in islamic schools in the middle east you only learn the teachings of mohammed and not history maths or geography, but i doubt you are suggesting we close those schools.
It helps to know that Germany has recognized that Scientology is a criminal organization, not a religion.
And hazbot is in no position to talk about stupidity.
It dosen’t say anything about them violating any laws, it just states their religion is essentially offensive to Germany.
To someone such as yourself, any religion has to be from the Middle East and over a thousand years old to be legitimate, to me, that makes it no more legitimate than some hokey scifi religion dreamed up by a tax evading madman.
Scientology is no more criminal than any other religion that collects money, posessions and power from its subjects on the basis of completely unprovable stories, tricks, and peer pressure. Everything is given to the organization by the free will of it’s deluded followers, as in all religions of the world.
As to what is stupid about my comment, I have no idea. It seems to be entirely logical.
