Why Don’t You Believe?

I have proof that god exists?

How can you deny holy texts like Iliad and Odyssey Theogony. Look around you, the evidence is all over. Look at the war in Iraq – proof of Ares. The high divorce rate shows Hera isnt happy. Look at the sea, evidence of Poseidon. Look at the exquisite wines and wild parties going on, thats the work of Dionysus. Cant you see great musicians are products of Apollo and great minds of Athena. Why dont you people believe. Are you afraid Zeus will strike you down with lightning. Are you too proud to repent. Why dont you accept the fact that there are beings bigger than you out there. You know what, it is your souls that will be banished to the underworld and befriend Hades.

Brilliant – I wish all those who use this argument for Christianity could read this and see how ridiculous they are.

The crazy thing is that Christian arguments are absolutely nothing like this. We don’t attribute small facts to all being from God to prove he is real. Instead, why not look at the big facts. The first matter HAD to be created. Macroevolution has NEVER been seen to occur in nature. Miracles happen all over the world. So honestly this example really doesn’t make much sense.

Miracles happen all over the world.

    Define miracle, then prove it.

The first matter HAD to be created.

By what? And what created that creator? If you say “the creator created itself or something like that, then why can’t the universe have done the same?

Thanks Ian. Thank you. The truth is there is no straight forward answer to those questions and johnston’s claims are based on a false premise. He assumes the answer is an obvious one and it isn’t. I’d like like to re-emphasize your question. What miracles? Tell me what in this world has happened that was beyond the realm of what we are perfectly capable of accomplishing for ourselves or cannot be explained by natural phenomena? Then leave your references from reliable sources and not just a bunch of religious propaganda websites so that the facts can be checked and tested against what we actually know.

Evolution has stood the test of time for 150 years. We have the genetic markers to prove who/what we descended from and you have yet to pick up a single magazine, book or peer-reviewed journal(I have) on the matter and pretend to be an expert on something you know little to nothing about. Evolution seems impossible to you because we are use to living in “middle world”. We are use to thinking in terms of decades, centuries or even perhaps a millennia or two. We are not use to thinking on an evolutionary time-scale. When you start thinking in this manner possibilities become endless. I have yet to see another Noah’s ark or burning bush or sea’s being parted because those things are based mythology and conjured up by primitive, barbaric, slave-loving men who were flagrant sexist and their holy book was their best guest when it came to peering into the unknown. Surely you can write your own holy book and bury it in the desert and someday, perhaps and millennia or two from now, it will become a religion.

And don’t bother arguing from irreducible complexity. Been there, done that, turned on its head in numerous arenas.
